Soudal Quick-Step has formally confirmed Calpe as its official winter training base, further strengthening a long-standing relationship between the WorldTour team and this popular coastal town on Spain’s Costa Blanca. This agreement formalises years of successful collaboration and highlights Calpe’s growing status as a leading destination for professional and amateur cyclists alike.
For several seasons, Calpe has played host to the team’s vital early-season training blocks, including the high-profile team presentation and media day held each January. With this new partnership, the collaboration gains more structure and visibility, supporting the town’s active promotion of cycling under the initiative “Calpe, destino ciclista”.
Speaking of the agreement, Koen Pelgrim, head coach at Soudal Quick-Step, said, “We’ve always felt at home in Calpe. The terrain, the climate, the hospitality – it’s the ideal environment to prepare for the season ahead. Making our partnership official was the natural next step.”
The team will return to Calpe this coming winter to begin preparations for the 2026 season. With strong local infrastructure, specialist support, and a community familiar with the demands of elite sport, Calpe continues to provide the ideal environment for performance-focused cycling.
The Calp City Council remains committed to sustainable, year-round tourism and sees this alliance as a key step in further positioning the area as a cycling hub. Marco Bittner, Councillor for International Promotion at the Calp City Council, highlighted the importance of this initiative for the local tourism strategy: “This is an important step in promoting Calpe as a year-round tourist destination. With the collaboration of this leading team, we are strengthening a long-standing relationship and will be able to put Calpe on the map for the vast global community of cycling enthusiasts and professionals. It will give us visibility within the sector and help us build stronger ties with a respectful, off-season, and financially sound tourist segment. We are pleased to crown this collaboration with the team.”
At Blanca Bikes, we proudly support cycling in Calpe and welcome the continued recognition of the region as a world-class base for training, riding, and racing.
