Weekly Rides, Good Company, and Scenic Routes from the Blanca Bikes Café
Calpe has long been a favourite destination for road cyclists, but in 2025, it gained something new: a dedicated, friendly cycling club that brings locals and visitors together for regular group rides. Calpe Cycling Club officially launched in May 2025 and is quickly becoming a regular fixture in the local cycling scene. With weekly rides departing from the Blanca Bikes café, the club offers a relaxed, social way to explore the area’s stunning roads while meeting fellow cyclists from across Europe and beyond.
A Club for All Calpe Cyclists
Calpe Cycling Club was set up with one clear goal – to provide an inclusive and welcoming riding group for people of all backgrounds and ability levels. Whether you’re a full-time resident in Calpe or visiting for a short holiday, the club makes it easy to get involved. Rides are structured but not overly competitive. They focus on steady group riding, enjoyable routes, and a good café stop – the kind of ride most cyclists enjoy.
The club meets every week on Sundays and Wednesdays, departing at 9am from the Blanca Bikes café on Carrer Blasco Ibáñez, 25, Calpe. The rides usually cover around 30 to 40 miles (50 to 65 km), with occasional longer rides or away days for those who want to push a little further.
Ride From the Heart of Calpe
Each ride begins at the Blanca Bikes café, a well-known meeting point in the town. With its cycle-friendly setup, relaxed seating, and quality coffee, the café is the perfect place to start and finish a ride. It also acts as a social hub, where new members can meet regular riders and where the group can chat before setting off. The club is open to road cyclists, and all ride information is shared in advance, helping riders plan their week around upcoming routes. Routes vary to keep things interesting, and the local knowledge of ride leaders means participants get to experience some of the best climbs and scenic roads in the Costa Blanca.
Hire a High-Quality Bike and Join In
One of the key benefits for visitors is the club’s connection to Blanca Bikes. Anyone without a bike can hire a top-quality Cervélo road bike directly from Blanca Bikes’ hire service. These bikes are professionally maintained and available in a range of sizes. Whether you’re used to riding a carbon road bike at home or you’re just getting into cycling, the hire service ensures you’ll have access to a bike that suits your riding style and ability.
All bikes come with essential accessories such as helmets, pedals (including SPD and Look options), and spare tubes. Booking in advance is recommended, especially during peak cycling months in spring and autumn when demand is high.
Social Group rides
Every Sunday and Wednesday, group social rides depart from Blanca Café in Calpe. These no-drop rides cover around 70 km and follow scenic, cyclist-friendly routes with a mid-ride café stop. Open to all riders as these are group social rides. The routes vary each week, taking in a mix of coast, climbs, and quiet inland roads.
Discover the Best of Costa Blanca
The Costa Blanca has become one of Europe’s leading cycling destinations. Thanks to smooth road surfaces, reliable weather, and low traffic, it provides ideal conditions for riders throughout most of the year. Calpe is particularly well placed, with easy access to popular climbs such as Coll de Rates, the Bernia Loop, Cumbre del Sol, and Port de Tudons. With Calpe Cycling Club, riders benefit from carefully chosen routes that showcase the best of the region without having to worry about navigation or getting lost. Rides often include a café stop in villages like Jalón or Benissa, giving everyone a chance to catch up over coffee and enjoy a slice of local culture along the way.
No Membership Required
Unlike many traditional clubs, Calpe Cycling Club keeps things simple. There’s no formal membership or sign-up process. Riders are welcome to turn up as and when it suits them. The focus is on building a friendly cycling community, not ticking boxes.
The only requirement is a well-maintained bike (or a Blanca Bikes hire bike), a helmet, and a positive attitude. While the club isn’t a training group, it’s expected that riders can manage 30 to 40 miles at a steady pace and are comfortable riding in a group.
A Growing Community
Since launching, Calpe Cycling Club has seen a steady increase in numbers. The mix of local residents, part-time expats, and visiting cyclists has helped create a group that is varied, inclusive, and full of energy. Many riders comment on how much more enjoyable their holiday is when they can join a group ride, especially one with good company and knowledge of the local terrain. For Blanca Bikes, supporting the club is a natural extension of its mission to make cycling in Calpe as enjoyable and accessible as possible. With the café, hire bikes, guided rides, and now the club, Blanca Bikes has become a central part of the cycling experience in the town.
